Pick-up/Drop-off
Lessons
If you arrive early, you may enter the studio 5 minutes before the lesson time, however, if you arrive earlier than this, please wait outside.
Performance Classes
Performance Classes will last approximately one hour. Please wait outside for pick up.
**If class has not finished and you would like to listen to a portion of the class, DO NOT ENTER WHILE SOMEONE IS PLAYING, wait until the music has stopped, then enter, and quietly take a seat. Please remember to silence your electronics.
Parking
Please park in the driveway. I share a driveway with my neighbor; our driveways are separated by a raised area in the middle. Please be careful to park on my side of the driveway. On Performance Class days, please park on the street in front of my house or other houses. Please never block any of my neighbor's driveways, even if you are waiting in your car.
Entering the Studio Quietly
Please do not ring the doorbell or knock on the door. Please let yourself in quietly & have a seat on the couch or one of the chairs in my studio. If for some reason the door is locked, please knock. Then if nobody answers, ring the doorbell once. Please do not ring the doorbell more than once.
Respect for the Piano
Even though pianos look like big strong pieces of furniture, they are actually very delicate instruments and need to be treated with great care.
• The keys only go down in the ways that I show you (never lift them up).
• Only touch the keys with your fingers (never scratch them with your fingernails).
• Keep the keyboard cover up at all times. If you want to look inside the piano, ask me and I'll
move the parts and show you.
• If using a footstool, please keep it away from the piano pedals. If using a pedal extender, please
place it on top of the pedals or pick it up off of the pedals (do not slide it on or off of the pedals).
Clean Hands
As pianists, we all use the same instrument, so to avoid the spread of germs & illnesses, please be sure to wash your hands before entering the studio. If you did not have a chance beforehand, please do so when you arrive.
Uninterrupted Lessons
Since lessons only last a short period of time, as to not disturb the flow of the lesson plan, the lessons will not stop for a bathroom break, drink break, etc. This can all be taken care of before you arrive so that your lessons can continue without interruption.
No food or drink in the studio at any time
Silence Electronics
Playing and teaching the piano takes an enormous amount of concentration, so please silence all electronic devices while in the studio.
Respect other areas of my home
My studio is in my home, so please stay in the living room where my studio is located. Please realize that others live in this house as well and respect their privacy by not going into other rooms in the house.
Questions During the Week
Please DO NOT WAIT if you have questions before your next lesson. Feel free to contact me anytime at any hour (I silence my electronics when I sleep) by e-mail, text, phone, FaceTime, Skype, or WeChat. If you call and I do not answer, please do not keep calling as it means I am teaching, in a meeting, driving, or doing something else so when continuing to call, the ringing disturbs what I am doing at the time. Instead, please leave a voice message or write me by one of the other means listed above and I will contact you as soon as I can.
Care for Music Books
In music, we always only use pencil. All books and sheet music need to be treated with care. There may be times you will want to go back and look at them to find something you might have forgotten. Keep them in a designated place in your home near your piano. Also, this way you will never lose a book!
Performance Classes
Performance Classes are held approximately once every month and are for ALL students. Not all students will be ready to play in every class, but they still need to attend as it is equally educational for them as well. In fact, it is often better for student who are not performing since they are not concerned about their performance, they can concentrate better and get more out of the classes. Please make all possible efforts to attend every class. If a student cannot attend, please let me know in advance. Parents are welcome to stay for the classes, but it is not necessary as you will have the opportunity to see the performances at the concerts.
Student Concerts
To perform in a concert is a privilege and an honor, so performers need to play pieces that are most prepared. We will discuss this together and choose the pieces that you performed best in the most recent performance classes. On the day of the concert, performers must bring all the music they will be performing (even though they will be performing from memory), dress appropriately, and arrive at least 45 minutes prior to performance time. Parents, I always appreciate your help making a fun reception by bringing finger food & drinks. Feel free to invite the entire family & all your friends!
Cancellation / Rescheduling
Consistency of learning is most important, so rescheduling is always ideal. If you will need to miss a lesson, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can arrange to reschedule. For instances other than illness, notification of cancellation must be made at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance, I will extend the same courtesy to you if I need to cancel a lesson. If enough notice is not given, it will be paid in full and does not need to be rescheduled.
Tuition
Tuition includes individual lessons, performance classes, and concerts. Invoices will be sent out during the last week of each month. Electronic payments via Zelle®️ to [email protected] are due at the first lesson of the month for the upcoming month. If any adjustments are made to lessons within the month, the next month’s invoice will include those adjustments.
